Interview with CBD Skincare Brand Owner: Melissa Christensen of Cannabliss Organics

There’s been a lot of buzz around CBD skincare lines, so we sat down with the owner, Melissa Christensen of Cannabliss Organics, a luxury organic skincare brand to see what she is working on as this trend rapidly grows in public attention.
Please tell us about Cannabliss Organic.
Melissa Christensen: Cannabliss Organic is a luxury skincare line infused with full spectrum hemp oil and Korean herbs. We have created anti-aging beauty products as well as healing and nourishing creams and oils. We source our CBD oil from Colorado, and all of our ingredients are organic and cruelty-free. We do not use any harsh chemicals and are proud members of 1% For The Planet.
What makes Cannabliss Organic different than other CBD infused brands?
Melissa Christensen: We use 87% concentrated full spectrum hemp oil, which has all of the 250 cannabinoids, versus CBD isolate, which only contains CBD. Our products do not smell like cannabis, and they do not leave skin feeling greasy. Our herbalist masterfully combines full-spectrum hemp oil with Korean herbs to work in synergy, maximizing each other’s benefits. Our packaging is PET and eco-friendly, plus the serum and lotion have airless pumps that prevent bacteria from entering the product. The lotion and serum are certified vegan, and Cannabliss is certified cruelty free by PETA and Leaping Bunny.
What was your background before you got started in the MMJ industry?
Melissa Christensen: I have always been involved in the beauty industry since I was a little girl. All of the men and women in my family are makeup artists, hair stylists, and salon owners. At first, I strayed away from the beauty industry and went into real estate, but my genuine passion for beauty and wellness eventually led me to create Cannabliss.
What drew you to the cannabis industry?
Melissa Christensen: I moved to Colorado 5 years ago with my husband. After about a year, my husband was approached to open a marijuana grow. I was not educated on marijuana and wanted to learn about all aspects of the cannabis plant before getting involved in such a controversial business. I became quickly intrigued with all the amazing benefits of “CBD.” Since I had grown up in the beauty world, it was natural for me to want to infuse CBD into beauty products. I felt this amazing ingredient should be more accepted by the masses and its benefits needed to be better communicated. So, I decided to create a product that was beneficial, beautiful and would be loved by all, whether or not they ever used a cannabis product before. I knew educating people on full spectrum hemp oil would present a hurdle, but I was willing to take that on as I truly believe in the benefits of CBD for skincare and want to share my passion with others.
How has the industry changed in the years that you’ve been active?
Melissa Christensen: More states have legalized marijuana, and it is becoming more and more mainstream.
What are some of the biggest obstacles facing CBD products right now?
Melissa Christensen: Banking is a major problem and not being able to have a merchant account. We also cannot purchase paid-for ads on Google or social media.
What does the future of Cannabliss Organic look like?
Melissa Christensen: We will have a full line of skincare, men’s care, hair care, eventually opening “canna-spas” nationwide.
